April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and piano classes, which spurred her passion for music writing. April Lockhart wrote her first song, Different at the age 12 years old. She spent lots of the time of 14 writing songs, and practicing her music. She began writing with her father on the streets of NY and LA soon after. April also began to include different topics related to some members of her circle who deal with such things as peer pressure disabilities and even teenager suicide, as in the song"Take my Hand. Lockhart has her own following and works as an online lifestyle blogger for the popular Ilia clean beauty brand. Her birth was without a left hand. It's part of who she's become, but it's hardly her whole story. Lockhart's profile on Instagram doesn't cover up her disability, but it does not focus solely on it. The message is? that we are all a part of a multitude and that we are all unique and that we're much more than just our physical self. It's not my intention to let that be the only thing that defines me. I don't want to be an influencer with a disability where that's all I talk about as there are my other aspects Lockhart speaks via video from her residence in Nashville. It doesn't impact my normal life. I just do everything normally and I've found my own method of adjusting to things. Because it's also a component of my identity and something worthy of discussion. Lockhart's self-acceptance journey is one that can last many years, yet she can be a role model in this regard. Lockhart admits to having experienced periods when she felt insecure about sporting certain clothes that displayed her arms. Today, she wears any outfit she chooses to and shares images of her outfits to the internet with a sense of pride. Self-love, according to her, is like a journey. "I doubt you'll ever get in that place," she said. It's true for all regardless of state of being. It's essential to have those around you who are aware of and can relate to you. They'll help you remind yourself of the things you're worried about.
